Mad Hatter Photo

Sometimes a photo is good, but it doesn’t quite convey what I want. I like the composition, but something less tangible, like mood, is not there, or the subject doesn’t stand out the way I remember it. That was the case with this image from last winter. This tree still had it’s autumn leaves, and the colors really stood out in the fresh snow and the subdued overcast sky. To get the image that I wanted I made a virtual copy that I changed to black and white. I opened both images as layers in Photo Shop and painted the tree into the black and white one using a mask.
